Times are a Changin

Vehicles provide many Americans with convenience on a daily basis.  The convenience to drive to a relatives for the weekend, transfer a load of groceries home or carpool with a group of people.  However, if you’re living in one of America’s densely populated areas such as New York City, owning a vehicle has become more of a hassle than a convenience.  Let’s face it, the lack of parking spaces, the fees, the monthly car bill – has deemed it much simpler to purchase a subway pass.  However, a new convenience may be entering the picture very soon.

It’s called Car2go and they are providing transportation to those who cannot or do not want to own a car.  According to Jerome Guillen, Director of Business and Innovation, Car2go will let people rent a Smart vehicle by the minute, hour or day – each one including fuel, insurance and cleaning.  Cars can be picked up in one spot and dropped off in another.  Renting can occur spontaneously or by appointment.

This service will provide individuals with the convenient mobility of owning a car and the payment flexibility of an oyster card or subway pass.  With more and more people living in cities, where more than 40% of households don’t have cars, this is one SMART convenience!
